Comments about the DHK Teachers Workshops

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2017

"A brilliant workshop that I would recommend. Worth every minute of the 10 hour round trip. I left with a really good understanding of what I need to do next, in order to pursue the possibility of having an Attending School Dog at Clarborough Primary School. As a complete bonus I left with a far better understanding of signs of stress to watch out for in dogs and some basic understanding of dog body language. A bit of a surprise was how little I knew as a previous owner of two dogs! Thank you so much Tracey, Gail, Mark, Vader and Teazel....now the work begins for me and my puppy to be!"

Rebecca Spencer, Bursar, Clarborough Primary School, Nottingham

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2017

"I found the workshop very helpful and DHK gave you lots of infomation to read and consider before you start your new venture with taking a dog into school. DHK also give you helpful tips and advice for when you are looking for the right breeder and dog breed. I'm glad I went on the workshop because I had lots of questions to ask, but they were all answered through out the day."

Louise Brodie, Teaching Assistant, Bozeat Community Primary School, Northamptonshire

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - February 2017

"DHK is the first and only informative professional and passionate charity that I have come accross who puts the dog's welfare at the heart of all work. I attended the Teacher Workshop in February 2017, which was completely fantastic. It was very informative and I learnt a lot from Tracey. I left the course excited and motivated to prepare my puppy for the Attending School Dog Programme and I have since started a Level 3 Practitioner Course in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). I really look forward to working further with DHK and would 100% recommend to anyone interested in integrating dogs into the classroom."

Emma Gaze, Primary Teacher, Priory Talcher School, Monmouthshire

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - November 2016

"The workshop provided by DHK is excellent. The day helps you to develop a good understanding of how the charity's work has evolved, understand its ethos and gives examples of the impact that the dogs have had in a number of different settings. This is an invaluable day if you are considering having a dog in your school and seeing the dogs in action is inspirational."

Hannah Baker, SENCO, Shrewton C of E Primary School

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - November 2016

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - September 2016

"The workshop was informative, thought provoking and fast paced. I've never learnt so much on a course. I was impressed with Tracey and Gail who are clearly extremely passionate about what they do and they are just full of knowledge! I ended the day motivated and wanting to not only take part in the training for my own school, but to be able to help promote the charity and spread the word!"

Leanne Rogers-Smy, Class Teacher, Goddard Primary School, Swindon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - September 2016

"I have been reading and researching all about the benefits of dogs in school for a long time now and once we had decided to go ahead as a school the only way I agreed to take a puppy on for this was if we followed the DHK Training Programme and attempted to become an affiliate school. I have been inspired by everything I have read about DHK and the workshop did not disappoint. The training programme is so thorough and all aspects of puppy/dog care are covered. It was wonderful to see the dogs and how they work with their owners. I enjoyed meeting Tracey and finding out about her background and all the research she has carried out. We were looked after and had great fun as well as learning lots, which made the day fly by. I really hope we get to go back and begin our training with DHK."

Kathryn Davies, Inclusion Manager, Windsor C.P.School, Liverpool

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - September 2016

"As an ex police officer and person who has had dogs all her life I know lots about the power of dogs and the strong relationship that animals have with their owners. I also know a little about what can happen when it all goes wrong. Tracey through her DHK charity has brought together years of experience to truly capture the great affinity dogs have with humans and to support people in training their dogs to an incredibly high level. This culminates in amazing results for every child lucky enough to spend time with a DHK School Dog. I can't wait to bring that into my school and see the impact on the children."

Sarah Stevens, Head Teacher and SENCO, St Nicholas School, Hertfordshire

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2016

"This was one of the most comprehensive courses I have ever been on. The amount of information provided was extensive, answering all the questions I may have had and also enabling me to present the scheme with confidence when I return to school. Tracey is knowledgeable and approachable and gives a reassurance that safety for both children and dogs is paramount. I learnt so much not just about having a dog in school, but also about the care of dogs on a personal level. At the end I felt inspired to start the process of having a Visiting School Dog at our school. Many thanks."

Trish Dean, Librarian, Pilton Community College, North Devon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2016

"If you are one of those schools who follow the newest research and interventions for your SEN children this is exactly what you need. The DHK Workshop was very informative, well organised and inspiring. Watching the School Dogs working was an absolute delight. A big thank you to all involved in it."

Beata Bednarska, Teaching Assistant & Autism Lead Practitioner, Hollin Primary School, Manchester

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2016

Cathy Parkes, Deputy Head, Hollywood Primary School, Birmingham

DHK Teachers One Day Personal Workshop - June 2016

"We really appreciated being able to have a personal workshop with Tracey as it means that we can get started with having a dog in school, now knowing more about what will be involved in the future as we progress with DHK training for our dog. Tracey was very welcoming and personalised all of the information for us in our individual situation which was great."

Sarah Clarke, Head of Complex Needs & Communication, Mill Water School, Bicton, Exeter

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2016

"The DHK workshop provided us with a clear understanding of the expectations we should place on ourselves if we want to work with dogs in schools. Dogs can help children understand the important values of life such as respect, responsibilty and trust. Through spending the day with Tracey and those dogs that have been trained on the DHK Programme, we understood the vital importance of everyone in school being equipped with the same knowledge before we introduce our school dog. This programme should be compulsory for all schools who are thinking of having a dog working with their pupils."

Julie Rees, Headteacher, Ledbury Primary School, Herefordshire

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2016

"I found the whole day insightful and helpful. It was great to see how the dogs in schools and libraries have made such a difference to so many children's lives. Liam's story was emotional and inspirational. As a dog lover and somebody working within education, I want to be a part of this charity."

David Skeels, Assistant Learning Mentor, Owlerbrook Primary School, Sheffield

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2016

"A truly informative and inspiring workshop. Tracey made us all feel very welcome; the workshop was relaxed and having the opportunity to meet Vader, Teazel, Charlie (plus their owners!) helped to make the day even more special. Thank you Tracey's Mum for a lovely lunch."

Louise Blackburn, Deputy Headteacher, Sherbrook Primary School, Stafford

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - October 2015

"I cannot thank DHK and Tracey and her team enough for helping me to get started on the road to having a puppy in school which will help and support our children with such a high level of need. Seeing Tracey work with her dogs and the amazing lives that she has transformed through this charity is inspirational. If only every school had a DHK and knew about the amazing work they are doing. Thank you for your inspirational day and I can't wait to get started! "

Fleur Belcher, Assistant Headteacher, Rose Hill Primary School, Oxford

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - October 2015

"A great course that gives a good overview of DHK, the fabulous and well thought out work they do and the difference they make. Would definately recommend this course to anyone thinking about having a dog in school. Don't even consider some of the bigger more well known charities - what DHK does is completely different and you'll be glad you chose them."

Verity Johnson, Practice Manager, Sandhole Veterinary Centre, Kent

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - October 2015

"The DHK Teachers Workshop was very informative, professional and thought provoking. Though I am an experienced dog owner/foster mum for Labradors, I will be modifying my training methods. Having a dog in our school will be so enhancing for our children who suffer from low self esteem and confidence."

Charlotte Roe, Safeguarding Officer, Courtlands School, Plymouth

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2015

"The workshop provided a large amount of information that (although I have always had a dog as a pet) I was unaware of. It has made me aware of issues around having a dog in school that I might not have considered. It was a really comprehensive introduction to this serious undertaking. It provided me with answers for people (staff and parents) who may be apprehensive about a dog being in school and assured me that the 'DHK way' is best. I would only have a dog in school with me under the guidance and training of DHK. I found the day very inspirational, seeing the work the dogs can do and the help they can give to children - more than I had realised. We met some inspirational people and dogs and had a thoroughly enjoyable day."

Lisa Scott-Russell, Teacher, Rose Hill Primary School, Oxford

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2015

"A day packed full of information, run by a very enthusiastic Tracey - who is clearly an expert in her field. It was wonderful to meet several of the DHK dogs and their trainers, especially as they were all at different stages of training, which meant that we could see their progression. Tracey undertakes her work with academic and professional rigour. I now feel very well informed on the wonderful work that DHK does."

Dr Isabelle Parkes, Teacher and Specialist Leader in Education, The Arnewood School, Hampshire

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2015

"I have attended the DHK Workshop and it was an amazing day! I would urge anyone who is considering taking a dog into their school to attend. I came away feeling very positive as the information given and support provided is second-to-none. Tracey's dedication, determination and experience is truly inspiring. The dogs were lovely, wonderfully trained and what I noticed above all is that they clearly enjoy what they do! I hope that our plans of having a School Dog can move forward and that I will be involved with DHK in the near future."

Sarah Carter, Teacher, Colley Lane Primary School, West Midlands

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - July 2015

"It was inspiring to meet Tracey because she has such a vision, passion and depth of understanding about dogs and how to motivate and communicate with them. I feel more confident that the children at my school will be able to benefit from a dog in a way that is safe for everybody. The rescources provided at the training will be invaluable in explaining this to the school governors and other staff."

Eleanor Lloyd, Specialist Autism Teacher, Ravenscroft Primary School, London

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2015

"An informal yet informative day, which surpassed my expectations. An amazing amount of information and handouts provided and I can't wait to get our puppy and get started. I now feel fully prepared to begin the preparation for having a School Dog."

Shelley Mitchell, Deputy Head Teacher, Kingshurst Primary School, Birmingham

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2015

"An inspirational training day, the time flew past! Tracey has a real passion and knowledge that she communicated well. I knew having a puppy should have a purpose other than company at home and on walks and this is it!"

Francesca McLoughlin, Head, Sparkwell All Saints Primary School, Plymouth

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - March 2015

"All I was looking for, and more. An information-packed day lead by an inspirational lady, a chance to meet some amazing dogs and owners with lots to take away and share with colleagues. I loved having Vader around at the workshop, it was great to watch Teazel and Gail in action and meet Charlie, Rachael and Liam. Thank you."

Ray Swain, TA (Personalised Learning), Marland School, Torrington, Devon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2014

"I really enjoyed being part of this course. There were a small number of us involved on the day which made asking questions very easy. It really did feel as though the course was being individually tailored to each of us. Being able to meet a couple of the School Dogs and watching them in action was really inspiring. I came away from the day feeling confident that the charity would help and support me if I were to introduce a dog to school and that the advice I received would allow me to get it right. Thank you."

Lucy Nicol, Head of Year, Archbishop Holgate School, York

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2014

"I found the workshop not only informative but also it was obvious that the information given came from a wealth of experience. When you are learning about how to work with dogs there is an overwhelming amount of information out there and it can become very confusing very quickly and also a little scary! so the ability to understand at a deeper level is of utmost importance when giving a talk about dogs helping children and dogs in general for that matter and this delivered!
I was very humbled to be a listener and learn from not only Tracey but also all the other owners and especially the dogs teaching us just what they are capable of!
I was also privileged to meet and have a little cuddle with Laya who began the journey for this great charity and will be remembered not only by her owners but also by everyone who she helped on her journey."

Anna Cripps, Child Counsellor, North Devon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - May 2014

"I spent a very informative and productive day with DHK and it has further convinced me that we have a very great need to familiarise kids with dogs and teach them how to live alongside animals and foster a relationship that is of great benefit to all children, but of especial use to those who are experiencing difficulties in their lives and learning."

Linda Symons, Literacy TA, Bideford College, North Devon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - September 2013

"The DHK workshop was truly inspirational. I have never attended a full day course without wishing I was somewhere else at some point - until now. From the beginning to the end the workshop was packed with information regarding the charity, the dogs, the training, the research, the list goes on and on. It was fascinating to see the work Tracey and her colleagues do. Meeting the dogs was wonderful, and made me want to take part in this programme immediately. Tracey gave information not just about the charity, but also about the wellbeing of dogs, behaviour issues, how to find reliable breeders and so much more. Tracey is passionate about the charity and its aims; she also cares so much about dogs, she has a lot of knowledge to share, which she does freely throughout the workshop. If anyone is considering taking a dog into school then I would say you need to attend this workshop - even if you decide you don't want to be part of the DHK programme at the end of it, you will have learnt so much about the practical aspects of taking dogs into schools. A fantastic experience - thank you so much Tracey."

Marie-Claire Hopkins, Deputy Headteacher, Maesgwyn Special School, Abedare, Wales

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - August 2013

"The workshop was a fantastic learning experience to introduce anybody to the concept of having a dog in school. The day covered many aspects from the research, to the benefits, and the practicalities to the logistics. All in all a very informative and enjoyable day, and we spent the whole 2 hour journey home discussing it!"

Nik (Headteacher) and Lisa Gardner, Winford Primary School, Somerset

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - August 2013

"I thought the course was absolutely fantastic. I had a brilliant day - it went so fast and was hugely informative and really inspiring."

Kit Messenger, Headteacher, Manor Field Primary School, West Sussex

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - August 2013

"The DHK workshop was a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn about DHK and the possibilities within 'my school'."

Rhona Matthews, Senior Teacher and Learning Manager, Lord Williams School, Oxford

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - June 2013

"The workshop offered a detailed and practical insight into a new and alternative method of supporting children, both with academic and emotional issues. I left the workshop both enthusiastic and exited about the potential progress young learners could achieve with the involvement of a School Dog and wondering why this approach is not already being used in learning environments across the country, especially within special needs units. DHK is a very professional organisation that promotes positive dog training and participation in the learning needs of young people . Tracey shared her extensive knowledge on this subject with humour, enthusiasm and made the whole programme interesting and fun. I sincerely hope that with good marketing and shared interests, her expectations of DHK will succeed and expand throughout the country and dogs can enjoy working with children, and vice versa, for many years to come."

Samantha Boxall, Teaching Assistant, Brynllywarch Hall School, Powys, Wales

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - June 2013

"I really enjoyed the DHK workshop. It was interesting and informative and has inspired me to look more closely at the benefits of having a dog in school and the practicalities of achieving this."

Fiona Lewis, Deputy Head, Brynllywarch Hall School, Powys, Wales

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - June 2013

"I found the whole day immensely interesting and it was humbling to learn how much can be achieved, enabling people less fortunate than myself to gain from the trust and confidence of a dog. I told the local teacher at our village school I was both humbled and inspired (not a word I use lightly). Thank you for your time, enthusiasm and efforts. The whole day was very relaxed and informal but this did not diminish the quality of the information."

Barbara Bennett, Callington, Cornwall

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - April 2013

"Meeting the DHK team and listening to what they had to say was great. I had several concerns with regards to how I could have a dog in my school logistically but Tracey was so helpful and has made the way forward look manageable. I feel fully equipped with how to take this forward. I can't wait to get my School Dog and work more closely with DHK in the future. If anyone is deciding whether or not to attend one of Tracey's wonderful workshops then DO IT, you will be converted for life! "

Beccy Greasley, Willenhall Community Primary School, Coventry

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - April 2013

"The DHK workshop was both informative and thought-provoking. It really highlighted the advantages for children that having a dog around school can bring. Be this in terms of emotional support, confidence building or literacy progress, I am absolutely confident after attending this workshop that introducing a dog to school children can only have positive results. Tracey was very welcoming and clearly extremely knowledgeable about dogs and their behaviours and the most effective training methods. Equally, it was clear that she has the best interests of children at the centre of DHK's work and it is them she seeks to benefit through the work she does with the talented DHK team of both dogs and people. "

Natalie Simpson and Richard Booth, The Reach Free School, Rickmansworth

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - April 2013

"The workshop was extremely interesting. Tracey has devoted a great deal of time and effort in planning and implementing the School Dog Programme."

Debra Fraser and Cathy Thurlow, Queen's Hill Primary School, Costessey, Norfolk

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - March 2013

"The DHK Workshop was a wonderful, fascinating, info-packed day. I was really impressed with Tracey's knowledge and experience and all her research. I found the whole course really exciting and it came up to my (high) expectations. I feel it is a path I would really like to follow with my Teaching (as a Senco) and might be useful in several local schools. It was extremely informative on how to train dogs positively and I learnt a great deal, especially having been guilty of some of the disapproved of older-fashioned training methods (eg; using a choke chain) in the past. The training day was most inspiring and provided me with a lot to think about. We were most generously catered for too, with delicious sandwiches."

Elizabeth Findlay, Special needs co-ordinater, Bridport, West Dorset

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - March 2013

"I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone interested in introducing dogs in school. We came with many questions about the whys and hows of having School Dogs and by the end of the day went away with those and many more questions answered. It was a real bonus to be able to have the training bespoke to our particlular area of interest. Very inspiring to see a fully trained DHK School Dog (Teazel the Labradoodle) and owner in action. Time flew which is always the sign of a great training course. Thank you for a fantastic day."

Rachel Wenham, Fitzwaryn School, Wantage, Oxon

DHK Teachers One Day Compact Workshop - June 2012

"I came across the Dog Helping Kids website while I was researching information on taking a dog into schools. I was desperate to introduce a dog into the secondary school where I work. I had the most beautiful puppy (Kizzy), the full support of my head teacher and colleagues and had been given some training by a wonderful local dog trainer, however, I still wanted to ensure for such an important and worthwhile endeavour that all the boxes both for the school and for Kizzy had been ticked. Tracey soon became my life line! After an 'out of the blue' telephone conversation she spent her valuable time giving me so much info, advice and reassurance! I was hooked on DHK! To meet someone who was willing to share all their expertize without any hesitation was a breath of fresh air! I booked and attended a one day teacher workshop with Tracey and I knew after 20 minutes I would sign Kizzy and myself to complete the DHK Affiliate School Dog Training Prgramme. This was exactly what I'd been looking for and I strongly recommend anyone who has an interest in this area to attend one of Tracey's Courses. We start in a few weeks and I'm so excited to be working with Tracey - her passion, knowledge and enthusiasm is addictive!!"

Jo Dixon, Student Manager, Erias High School, Wales

DHK Teachers Weekend Workshop 2012

"I attended a Workshop, run by Tracey, that went through everything you need to know about about having a DHK dog in your school. Wow, Tracey didnt forget a thing. It was a fantastic workshop and I would recommend any School who is considering working with DHK to attend. Tracey is so passionate about DHK and her enthusiasm is fantastic."

Jane Shannon - Teaching Assistant, Southmead Primary School, Braunton, North Devon

DHK Teachers Weekend Workshop 2012

"I attended the DHK weekend training course run by Tracey Berridge in May 2012. The course was great-informative, interesting and fun! The 2 day course provided me with everything I needed to know about preparing my school for having a school dog-parents, staff, equipment. I am now in the process of preparing my puppy, Teddy, a 9 week old Golden Cocker Spaniel, to join our school in September, and I am sure he will become a much loved member of the team! I hope that he will help many children in a variety of ways-or even be just a good friend. While on the course, I had the pleasure of meeting 4 dogs who are working as DHK dogs in schools. I have to say they were amongst the best behaved, well trained and friendly dogs I have ever met. From photographic evidence, it was clear to see the huge benefits children in school were experiencing from interacting with these dogs. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in working with dogs and children to attend this course. Tracey is a fountain of knowledge, has a wealth of experience and is clearly devoted to her vision of Dogs Helping Kids."
